The Girl Who Drank the Moon

The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
Newbery Medal 2016

Every year, the people of the Protectorate leave a baby as an offering to the witch who lives in the forest. They hope this will make her happy enough to leave their town alone. But the witch in the forest is kind and can't figure out why these people do this every year. So, every year she rescues the babies and delivers them to loving familes on the other side of the forest. One year the father of the baby that is to be offered decides enough is enough and sets out to kill the witch. Will Luna, the girl that was accidentally fed the moon, be able to help save the baby and the witch that she also believes is her grandmother?

Fantasy isn't usually my favorite genre, but this was a book that I could not put down!
